Mya Melrose – Zone:Issue 93

Released back in October, this is one of those mixtapes that we really couldn’t find a way to describe.  Mya Melrose calls her style Foreign Wave and it definitely has a futuristic sound.  There is a quality about it that makes it both chaotic and strangely melodic at the same time.  Her sing-songy bars add to that effect in a way that brings in a mellowness over the bass-heavy tracks.  It’s like Sade meets an older, more vocally experienced Willow Smith.

Whatever it is, this trippy set is worth a couple listens just to get the mood of what she’s saying track to track.
