Rejoice, Cassies and BigEast!  Your boys are out here!

One thing that any fan of Jpop will tell you is that, due to the closed-off nature of the country, it can be relatively hard to find out if new material has been released from your favorite artist.  This even goes for Korean artists who release music in Japan if they are signed with Avex  (which Tohoshinki is).  Thankfully, Avex is slowly opening its doors to the west and posting full videos on their official YouTube channel…and that’s how we found this.

One of the things that we love about the Gods of the East is that they have different flavors at times and that is no more clear than when you compare the duo’s discographies in Korea and Japan.  The Japanese sets tend to have a lot more rock in them and this track follows suit by giving us that stirring pop/rock beat with a mixture of electic guitar and horns layered over one another.  That hard, four-on-the-floor beat on the choruses teamed with the chant-like oohs is a strong mix that that really drives the point of the track home.  It feels almost military in its intention, but there is softness interwoven in the underlying melody (below the blaring stings of the harsher instrumentation) that mellows things out a little.  That part never really takes center stage at any point, but you do always hear in there.

The vocals are little more stripped than we’re used to on the Korean side as well, but they fit the track well because of the no-nonsense nature of the beat.  Changmin doesn’t give us full voice as much on this one (and a couple of times comes right out the nasal).  Yunho, on the other hand, does a lot more flourishes in his lower register, making him stand out even because of the strength of that element of his voice.  He does do the signature I’m jealous of myself line though and that last second transition up an octave is perfection.  It’s the kind of performance that demonstrates the control they have over their instruments and gives the listener another dimension of them to explore.

We really didn’t expect to like this one as much right from the jump but, just like Reboot and Road, there is something addictive about these two on tracks like this that just lures you right in.

The official single for Jealous comes out November 21 in Japan.  No word of a wider release yet for the rest of us.

Slight Rant: We really wish people would stop calling them old.  Yes they’ve been performing for 15 years but Yunho is only 32 and Changmin just turned 30.  They still have plenty of time to drop bops before we ship the off to the veteran perfomers’ home.  Besides, until some of these newer groups can perform an entire three-hour concert in the pouring rain without missing a beat, they still have a lot to teach us.

Lyrics:
When I look at you fire
can’t escape
A man is a loser
I can’t handle you

I don’t love you anymore
I’ve kept telling myself

I’m jealous of myself
When I am next to you.
I’m jealous of myself
You satisfy me everything

I tell you that I don’t love you
but somehow that makes me want to cry.

I’m jealous of myself
I get agitated by loneliness
I’m jealous of myself
Just being next to you

Looking down midnight
A red moon
I was looking at moonlight
I kept myself being quiet
Only you can make me shine
If the sun does not exist, I am just a pebble.

I’m jealous of myself
Just being next to you
I’m jealous of myself
I want to destroy everything
I tell you that I don’t love you
but somehow that makes me want to cry.

I’m jealous of myself
I get agitated by loneliness
I’m jealous of myself
Just being next to you

Jealous
I’m jealous
I’m jealous of myself

I don’t love you anymore
I’ve kept telling myself
I’m jealous of myself
Just being next to you
I’m jealous of myself
You satisfy me everything
I’m jealous of myself
I get agitated by loneliness
I’m jealous of myself
Just you are next to me

I’m jealous of myself
Just being next to you
I’m jealous of myself
Just you are next to me
I’m jealous
