Hyolyn already proved that she had the goods during her years in Sistar and she gave us a jam with Dally, so she really didn’t have to come and take what was left of our scalps with this track.

If there is a major difference between this track and the first, it’s that it has a more traditionally Kpop-sounding production, depending more on synth lines and bouncy melodies than the R&B/hip-hop sound of Dally.  This isn’t an issue because that sound, when executed like this, is perfect for summer weather and brings an air of happiness with it.  The beatwork on this is better than most as it doesn’t have that string of repetitious musical phrases that can make thing flatten out over time.  There are inserts of new elements just when you get used to the track sounding a certain way, but they aren’t so obvious that they take you out of the moment.  It’s a delicate balance it manages it well.

The vocal are solid.  Hyolyn comes with her sexy tones in the beginning before transitioning into her sweet poppy vibe.  She is confident in her tones and her runs are both subtle and make the song interesting in their inclusion.  It is sometimes interesting to note how wide her vocal range is considering the type of vocals that tend to go over better with Asian audience (in comparison to Western ones) in terms of pitch, but she gives hints at it with interesting scale transitions that are both included in the main vocal and an integral part of the adlibs.

Lastly, the lyrics are solid as well.  While we recognize that they don’t flow as well when translated as they might in the original Korean, we are able to understand the meaning behind them easily and the overarching metaphor of going to the ocean, while possibly unintentional, gives things a little dimension.

As for the visual, in some ways this reminded us of Superlove (except we like the song more), but we don’t think that was intentional.  It’s hard to make videos filmed almost entirely at the beach with a group a female dancers look that different from one another.  Again, we love that Hyolyn balances the giving body with giving vocals as this track could have probably been a hit thanks to the visuals alone.

While this won’t replace Dally for us this summer, this is a good companion piece to that track.

Lyrics:
Wanna go see the ocean babe
If it’s with you, I’m down down down down
Let me get in the passengers seat
Answer me quickly, now now now now

So good, sweet showers
Even the candlelight in my room
Make me feel good
I wanna get closer to you tonight

Might be a little early for this, might be a little fast
I just wanna say (say)
Sometimes, being spontaneous is good
boy what do you say

(So take me there)
Wanna go see the ocean babe
(yeah you&I)
If it’s with you, I’m down down down down
Let me get in the passengers seat
(yeah you&I)
Answer me quickly, now now now now

Wanna go see the ocean babe
(yeah you&I)
If it’s with you, I’m down down down down
Let me get in the passengers seat
(yeah you&I)
Answer me quickly, now now now now

I’m not easy, I don’t trust men
But you’re the exception
You make my heart open
Maybe today’s the day, let’s check our feelings
Tonight is the night

We fit together so well like coca and cola
This is what you said (said)
Honestly, you don’t know how to hide it
Boy I like that way

(So take me there)
Wanna go see the ocean babe
(yeah you&I)
If it’s with you, I’m down down down down
Let me get in the passengers seat
(yeah you&I)
Answer me quickly, now now now now

You and me, with the cool breeze
Let’s leave together with a kiss
I’m waiting, take me away
It’s a heart fluttering night, it’s getting hot
Give me all your love

Wanna go see the ocean babe
(yeah you&I)
If it’s with you, I’m down down down down
Let me get in the passengers seat
(yeah you&I)
Answer me quickly, now now now now

Wanna go see the ocean babe
(yeah you&I)
If it’s with you, I’m down down down down
Let me get in the passengers seat
(yeah you&I)
Answer me quickly, now now now now
