Come through, Generation One!

Depending on when you got into Kpop, you might not remember this group but you are likely familiar with their work.  They’ve had a bunch of songs remade over the years and only one has even come close to being as good (or better) than the original.  Rejoice, Friends; Eugene, Bada, and Shoo make a great comeback right in their wheelhouse; nineties goodness.

Paradise, the lead track from S.E.S.’s new album, is such a groove that it is hard to not start moving from the moment the opening rolling drum machine kicks in.  Considering that nineties throwbacks are making major play as singles in recent months, they couldn’t have picked a better time for a resurgence.  The production is bouncy, happy, and infectious and is quite the bright spot in what is usually the slower production tones of winter.  Their vocals are to die for and they sound absolutely great, meeting that youthful energy from their debut days with the experience and improved sound that comes with practice and age.  The harmonies are stronger than expected, as well, showing a slight update to their signature sound.  The lyrics are good, with only a little hiccup here and there due to cultural differences (seems like they’re puns, which just don’t translate).  Overall, this is a strong track and one worthy of the ladies and their impact on Kpop.

And, can we just say, we’re really happy to see another veteran group of women make a comeback.  Brown Eyed Girls and Wonder Girls the only one that comes to mind in recent memory.

Sidenote: I wonder what our fairy’s little fairy will think of her mommy’s new music.

Lyrics:
Baby, it’s a brighter day
Are you just looking at the wall at home? What is it
Today is Friday Meet me
I’ll release you everywhere.

It’s better than this in our lives.
It’s going to be a lot of hard work.
Maybe it will start now
Get away from me today!

On the sea wide blue wide
Throw you in the picture
That blue sky That sky
You and I are melting.
This fact alone makes it even worse
There’s plenty of reason to laugh more.
Yes, you are right.
You enjoy

Baby today is Sunday
I can not breathe tomorrow’s scary
Do not flee to the future
We’re on the train to tomorrow.

This moment is the point of contact
I have encountered my own overlapping space and time
Meet your brilliant smile
Coverin meet our “friends”
The fairy is next to us “Eugene”
Even if I am charming I’m “swimming”
Nobody can deny Diva Dan “Sea”
We are still dream team!

It’s better than this in our lives.
It’s hard to do more than now.
Do not fall apart by the side
They have each other to protect.

On the sea wide blue wide
Throw you in the picture
That blue sky That sky
You and I are melting.
This fact alone makes it even worse
There’s plenty of reason to laugh more.
Yes, you are right.
You enjoy

Paradise deeply hidden in my heart
Invitation to a dream that resembles the whispers of the gods
One day our dreams come true
I’ll be here again.

On the sea wide blue wide
Throw you in the picture
That blue sky That sky
You and I are melting.
This fact alone makes it even worse
There’s plenty of reason to laugh more.
Yes, you are right.
You enjoy
