Having sung with the likes of Donnie Trumpet and Prince, Eryn Allen Kane voice is more known as a being that chick on the hook than for leading her own tracks. That might change, though, as she has released something that’s the kind of thing that makes people who appreciate music sit up and take notice.
Over a primarily acoustic guitar and drum production, the singer speaks about a relationship that seems to have fallen apart and how she and significant other are drifting away from each other. Her vocals are the main feature of this track as she glides of the instrumentation with ease and soft power; never giving more than the song requires. The harmonies are lush and full but never overtake her but make themselves known enough to make you focus in on them at times. The lyrics, while not completely to the point, are easy to follow and understand with a relatable poetry that makes things interesting.
If this is what she’s offering for solo work, we can’t wait to hear more.
Slipping is the first single from the singer’s upcoming EP, Aviary.
