If we’re going to be honest about the two debut tracks from One (Jung Jaewon), we prefer this one to Gettin’ By.  The reason is that, despite the other song having that Cha Cha Beat Boy, this one had us from the moment it started playing.

There is just something about that bassline when it teams up with the melodic acoustic piano in the intro that lights up the speakers and perks up the ears.  The transition into a trap&B sound is seamless, but falls far less on the trap side of the spectrum thanks to One’s vocals and persistent melody that is just beneath the surface of the harder, darker tones.

And One’s vocals aren’t bad, but they aren’t particularly anything special…at least, not on this track.  He spends most of this song in a sing-song trap mode, but the places where he does lay down some more traditional vocals are nice.  The most we can say from what we’ve heard between this and Gettin’ By is that his voice has enough personality to keep the listener from tuning out, but we’re not sure they’re interesting enough to support an entire song without any bars.

Lyrically, this song is nothing like I expected from a more mainstream Korean label…even if it is YG.  This song is amazingly freaky without getting explicit or crass, which is nice, but so not what we were expecting due to how much promotion we’d seen for this debut.  Usually Korean companies tend to play it a little safer on the first tracks.  If Gettin’ By is playing it safe, Heyahe is turning around and running straight back into danger.  Still, even with the content, the track is exceedingly well written and has a nice balance of poetic and descriptive imagery.  There is a romantic edge to the tone that makes this come across very well and One does nothing in his delivery to mess that up; in fact, he kind of enhances the mood with his tone and more stable, deep voice.

We are gettin’ by with pop!gasa

Lyrics:
The dawn air is cold, our bodies getting cold
Come inside the warm blanket
I feel your warmth, your messed up hair
And your odd smile

Leave the lights on, I wanna remember everything clearly
Your perfect silhouette when you look back at me
It drives me crazy, oh damn
Under your hair, under your shoulders
The moment we meet eyes, we start

Don’t close your eyes right now
It’s too early to fall asleep
Don’t wanna hide it, we have to do it
We need to do what we need to do
We must do it

No rule for who goes first
My hand grabs your legs
YEAH I’M LOVIN’ IT WITH YOU
YEAH I’M LOVIN’ IT WITH YOU
You all dream about us, we’re in your imagination
YEAH I’M LOVIN’ IT WITH YOU
YEAH I’M LOVIN’ IT WITH YOU

We have to do it, we need to do what we need to do
Before the night is over, we have to do it
We have to do it, we need to do what we need to do
Before the night is over, we have to do it

Till the sunlight interferes
WE MAKE SO MUCH LOVE
AY AY till you’ve had enough
BABY WORK IT WORK IT UH
GIVE IT THAT WORK
GIVE IT THAT WORK
Your breath is quickening
We’re not done yet
We’re busy right now

Don’t close your eyes right now
It’s too early to fall asleep
Don’t wanna hide it, we have to do it
We need to do what we need to do
We must do it

No rule for who goes first
My hand grabs your legs
YEAH I’M LOVIN’ IT WITH YOU
YEAH I’M LOVIN’ IT WITH YOU
You all dream about us, we’re in your imagination
YEAH I’M LOVIN’ IT WITH YOU
YEAH I’M LOVIN’ IT WITH YOU

We have to do it, we need to do what we need to do
Before the night is over, we have to do it
We have to do it, we need to do what we need to do
Before the night is over, we have to do it

No rule for who goes first
My hand grabs your legs
YEAH I’M LOVIN’ IT WITH YOU
YEAH I’M LOVIN’ IT WITH YOU
You all dream about us, we’re in your imagination
YEAH I’M LOVIN’ IT WITH YOU
YEAH I’M LOVIN’ IT WITH YOU

We have to do it, we need to do what we need to do
Before the night is over, we have to do it
We have to do it, we need to do what we need to do
Before the night is over, we have to do it
