Seventeen years and still going strong!

BoA is going to keep dropping jams and force you to deal.  Her latest, Camo, has that BoA sound (she does a good bulk of her own writing and producing) but doesn’t sound dated because of it.  Vocally, the songstress knows where her strength lies and tends to stay in the her upper alto range while balancing out the tone with lowkey harmonies.  The fact that the first few times you listen you may not be able to hear the backing vocals shows how well she can keep your attention as a lead.

The lyrics are really good and have the innuendo-filled language that makes you wonder what she is really talking about.  At first it seems like she’s talking about hitting the town and expressing herself on the dancefloor, but then it begins to switch on you and it sounds like she’s gaining her freedom to be herself before the last switch and you wonder about the sexual undertones of it all.  No matter what meaning you choose, it all hangs together well and really shows of the writing capabilities of the singer.

As for the visuals and choreography (which she also tends to do herself), she shows that she hasn’t lost a step and manages to deliver more than just the cutesy/sexy moves that are forming the backbone of most female performers moves by going on to add in the hard-hitting steps that give aggression.  She balances it out with some nice beauty shots and some still tomboy but sexy outfits.

pop!gasa is never hidden from us for long…

Lyrics:
Hidden in the sweetness
Are those words, easy as the wind
It won’t go through to me
I’m not that easy

In this typical, trembling situation
I’m testing you out with this conversation
It’s not a lie (no no)
But I’m hiding my heart just enough (oh yeah)
Hey, baby

In the darkness
With all the lights off
I’ve hidden my shadow
I can’t be tied down
To some place tonight
My face has changed
My heart is moving
But my camouflage will hide it (woo)

I still don’t know, yeah
My own heart (woo)
The thick colors of the camouflage
Cover up the new world that’ll surprise me

The purple light that’s like loneliness
The black light that never has a flaw
They’re mixed together as it wraps around me

I’ve thoroughly hidden my truth
But I discovered something deep inside my emotions
The one answer that my experience has taught me
oh yeah and baby

In the darkness
With all the lights off
I’ve hidden my shadow
I can’t be tied down
To some place tonight
My face has changed
My heart is moving
But my camouflage will hide it (woo)

I still don’t know, yeah
My own heart (woo)
The thick colors of the camouflage
Cover up the new world that’ll surprise me

Yeah, look more carefully for me
Look more carefully

Out of all the images of me
That countlessly changed
There’s only one that is for you
The hidden camouflage

Come to me seriously, yeah
Come
With the color that resembles you
My camouflage gets lighter

Yeah, look more carefully for me
Look more carefully
