Since we haven’t seen a 15& single or album in a minute, the release of a new Yerin Baek single would seem to signal that the group is no more.  But at least Baek knows how to deliver smooth sounds to our ears.

Bye Bye My Blue is one of those titles that seems like it’s going to lead into a bunch of nonsensical lyrics, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.  The song, about not subjecting a new love to strange treatment because of heartache in your past, is well constructed and sounds like a one-sided phone conversation.  It’s one of those songs that makes you think about the person you love and how you treat them.

Baek’s vocals are sweet and gentle, adding a lot to the theme of the song.  The vulnerable and demure tone adds to the emotional resonance in a way that someone belting out the lyrics could not have accomplished.  The production is slow and a little jazzy, similar to Across The Universe.  It may not be the most summery of tunes, but it a good one nonetheless.

We’ll never day bye bye to pop!gasa

Lyrics:
Why am I jealous of the things you have?
Holding tightly onto things I can’t even handle
What and how much more do I want to get better from here?
I know you’re the same too, am I the selfish one?

I have a lot but I’m not like you
I’m walking on top of painful memories alone every day
I know it hurts but my heart keeps going there
Maybe that’s why I keep getting greedy for you

My my my darling
Just calling your name makes my heart overwhelmed
I want to become even bigger
So I can hold you tight

Saying what I want makes me nervous
So I pushed you away and made you uncomfortable
There’s so much I wanted to hear
But I couldn’t hope for it and I just painfully waited

My my my darling
Just calling your name makes my heart overwhelmed
I want to become even bigger
So I can hold you tight
