It’s been a minute since Marie Dahlstrøm put out a solo EP, that might be changing now.
Her latest original track has the singer musing on the downside of living to simply accomplish without finding internal peace and purpose. She states that, when the chips are down, not having anything or anyone to center you can be more devastating than any failure.
Her vocals are very smooth and stick to her signature style of minimal adlibs and runs, which works for a song like this. The production makes up for a lot of the energy that could have been sucked out of the song due to the vocal delivery by adding strength on the brief chorus and is supported by the strong harmonies that add the levels that her solo style does not. The lyrics are deep and somewhat shrouded in a poetic style, but not hard to understand if you really listen.
