Today is Eric Bellinger’s birthday and, as both a birthday gift from him to fans and as a teaser for his upcoming Cuffing Season, he has released a three-track EP with some nice sounds.

The first track, Text Threads, samples Montell Jordan’s This Is How We Do It lyrics for a track about how he and his lady used text messaging as a prelude to their lovemaking.  The production has a dark undertone but is still pretty bright.  The next track, Overrated, samples the Living Single theme song for a track about being single not being all it’s cracked up to be.  This is a really nice track sonically and is a nice hint to the changes in Bellinger’s life (he’s been married for about a year and is about to have his first child).  The last track, Viral, reminds us a little of his track 4 Digits from DJ Mustard’s 10 Summers album.  It’s about shaking the jelly with determination.  While all three tracks are not new territory for Bellinger, he has a gift of making them all sound fresh and fun like it’s the first time we’ve heard him sing about them.  This is nice warm up to an album that is increasingly becoming one of the more awaited underground releases of the year.

Update: These tracks will be included in Bellinger’s upcoming album, Cuffing Season.
