This is a side of Kanye that we rarely see.

The new year has barely begun and Kanye has set things off right with a track that has him singing from the perspective of his mother from heaven.  The track has very gentle, personal lyrics and sounds like what Kanye hopes his mother sees as she looks down on him from above.  The repeated refrain tell Nori about me ends up sounding like a promise to the woman who was instrumental in shaping his life.  And speaking of instrumental, yes, that is Sir Paul McCartney on the keyboards.  The mixture of McCartney’s gospel-esque styling teamed with an (autotuned) West sounding more earnest and vulnerable than we’ve heard him in a long time makes this quite the tearjerker; get the tissues ready before you listen.

Between this and the new Usher track, 2015 might turn into the year of unusual musical pairings.
