Chicago’s NYLO is back with a track about how bad relationship karma pays it forward as much as the good does.
This track has an interesting sound as it feels like it’s going to be a bit of a slow jam but the underlying beat brings up the energy and makes it almost danceable (or completely danceable for the right choreographer). There is a bounce to this that, despite the subject matter, could make it a solid jam for a lot of people. The breakdown after the second chorus feels somewhat out of place, but it still works in the context of the song as giving an auditory representation of the emotional conflict that the songstress feels.
And NYLO does a good job with this track. She’s not really one for adlibs but it works with this track. In fact, the more stoic delivery might be the best choice considering the energy of the beatwork as it might have made this song a little too much on the ears in its current mid-tempo state. Where she really makes it work is the harmonies. They are always present in one way or another and flush out her vocals in a way that a lead adlib never could.
The lyrics are really solid as well, portraying a situation where someone who’s been hurt in a previous relationship ends up doing the same to the next person they’re involved with due to fear of commitment. Why she sings about blaming it n her ex, you get the feeling that her ex may have said the same to her and that this is vicious circle that is doomed to continue unless someone breaks the pattern.
No word on whether this is the lead single to an upcoming project of not, but we really do want to hear more.
Lyrics come from NYLO’s SoundCloud page for this track.
Lyrics:
Sometimes true love
Turns out to be, fake as hell
Starts out to be, so good
Doesn’t end up so well
Everybody’s cheat in’ on
Sneakin’ round on everyone
This day and age is so hard
To find someone who’ll stay around
I can’t control myself
That’s why I can’t commit to you
Don’t want nobody else
But, I just can’t commit to you
I want you for myself
But I just can’t commit to you
I really wish I could care, but
Scar tissue just don’t heal
Blame it on my x
Blame it on my x
Blame it on my x
X
X
And all the shit he did,
Cuz that’s just what they do, so
Blame it on my x
Cuz now I’m doin’ it to you
It’s a domino effect
One after the other
I’m blamin’ you for shit
That happened fore’ you got here
Lovin’ me, tellin’ me, you feelin’ me
When you really don’t
Fuckin’ me, lyin’ to me
Just to come and lie with
I can’t control myself
That’s why I can’t commit to you
Don’t want nobody else
But, I just can’t commit to you
I want you for myself
But I just can’t commit to you
I really wish I could care, but
Scar tissue just don’t heal
Blame it on my x
Blame it on my x
Blame it on my x
X
X
And all the shit he did,
Cuz that’s just what they do, so
Blame it on my x
Cuz now I’m doin’ it to you
