Both separating himself from and revealing a piece if the connection between he and his SHINee groupmates, Taemin returns with the long awaited follow-up to his 2014 solo EP. The album has a different feel than his previous effort, having more of a focus on a cohesive sound rather than being a sample platter of different sounds. There is also more of a separation from the sound of SHINee, although you can hear his personal style influences in the group’s work. It’s everything we loved about ACE with none of the filler.
One thing you might notice is that there is a stronger emphasis on ballads this time around, all of which really show of the singer’s ability to belt out a track without having to do too much. Our favorite is Soldier, a beautifully sad song that really has all the strengths of this set.
