With a voice rich with soul, Antonique Smith sings odes to love and loss.

The songstress shows up and out on her new EP as she takes on both the throwback soul and more modern pop power ballad in five original tracks.  Lyrically, the tracks are pretty run of the mill in that there’s nothing that really stands out about her descriptions, but they make sense.  The production for the majority of those is throwback and suits her well as she growls and emotes in balance with the heavier production.  The more modern Higher (Let Your Guard Down) and All We Really Have Is Now has her dialing back that power some to fit the more subdued beatwork, but she doesn’t sound bored or like she’s not giving her all at any moment.

And anyone who can do a good remake of The Beatle’s Here Comes The Sun deserves some lauding.
