It says something that an artist can have a nearly 15 year gap between projects and still have people remember his name but D’Angelo managed to do it. That’s almost entirely due to the strength of his seminal sophomore album, Voodoo, and the breakaway hit Untitled (How Does It Feel).
BJ The Chicago Kid, who is seen by many to be the modern artist most likely to continue down D’Angelo’s soulful avenue, has decided to cover two of the singer’s best tracks from that album. Adding his own arrangements and lyrical flair, the singer does a really good job of maintaining the spirit of the original tracks while making them more than just generic remakes that could fade into the background. Send It On is probably the closest to being a direct remake, but Untitled is where the singer shows really shows his own personality. While not as smooth and seductive as the original, it still has a sensual flair and merges the two different stylistic eras in good way.
We would, however, be remise if we didn’t at least put it out there that the intro track either needs to be made into a full version or the (more likely) the full version needs to be released.
