While Christmas may have officially ended yesterday, we celebrate around here until the first of the year.

If there is one thing to be thankful for this year it’s that Miss Lauryn Hill has been more active.  She contributed to the Nina Simone tribute album as well and we got a few leaked tracks from what was reported to be a new album.  Now she’s given us a Christmas song in the best tradition of the reason for the season.

Fusing what can only be described as a fusion of traditional and gospel styles, the songstress puts her all into a track that tells the story of the birth of Jesus.  Her vocals are soulful and, with the aid of the harmonies, it comes out as lush despite the lowkey way that she delivers the lyrics.  There seems to be a bit of an imbalance between the vocals and the beatwork volume, but it’s not so bad that it ruins the song.

It’s the kind of Christmas track we’ve been waiting on all season and we’re glad she’s the one to deliver it.
