Even though it’s only been a few months since the release of her long-awaited and long-delayed sophomore album, Cognac and Conversation, Teedra Moses has dropped a freelease that is sure to have her fans–and new listeners–perking up their ears.
Comprised of tracks that are either refixes of somewhat new releases (like the obligatory Hotline Bling cover), some that just use the production of other tracks, and a couple out-and-out remakes, this set is both soulful and surprisingly engaging (given the content). The new lyrics are solid and either allow her to keep the spirit of the original track while making it her own or make the song into something new entirely; taking it in a direction that we never thought of before…or, at least, that applies to tracks 1 through 10.
Tracks 11 through 13 are hip-hop tracks from three artists who, we assume, are either close to Moses or are her labelmates on Shanachie Entertainment. While the effect of including there has a whiplash effect and we really wish there tracks could have featured Moses in some way, they aren’t bad songs in and of themselves and can serve for as a perk-up after some of the slower songs by the main artist.
