Having that mix of R&B smoothness and hip-hop brashness, Yo Trane has crafted a pretty nice freelease. Writing all the songs himself and teaming up with Kalim for the production, the dark and moody EP centers around the ins and outs of love and lust. Yo Trane’s vocal range isn’t huge, but he maximizes his sound by using what he’s got well and switching up the flow just enough to keep you invested from track to track.
Some of the song might remind people of early The Weeknd tracks from him epic trilogy of mixtapes, but there a definite sense of self here that doesn’t make that similarity sound like an intentional copy. His lyrics are to the point and contain some adult language, but he manages to smooth their delivery with his tone, which makes this expectable to a wider range of ears. Soft enough got the ladies and hard enough for the men, there is something here for everybody.
