iKON has finally dropped their half-album (Seriously, what the hell, Papa YG? Just call it an EP or part one.) and dropped two videos to go along with it. The first track, Airplane, is about working up the courage to say those three little words to someone when it’s likely not to change anything between you.
The lyrics are the strength of this track. The way that they express the situation feels real as the members stumble between letting the other person go and begging them to stay. The rest of the track, however, falls a little flat. The production feels hollow in comparison to the depth of the song and the chosen instrumentation makes the overall feeling more juvenile. But, even if the production had been better, we don’t know if the group has the vocals to support it. iKON’s strength is as a hip-pop group and the highlighted members (Bobby and B.I.) don’t bring the kind of vocal resonance that’s required to pull something like this off effectively.
The visual might end up being the seller for this track as the storyline has a nice flow and matches the song to a tee.
