Most people thought this was going to be Chance The Rapper’s new project.  It’s not, but it’s still good. Mixing jazz with hip-hop, Donnie Trumpet gives a wonderful mixture of tracks that will offer something to the more discerning listener.  This isn’t a party album, although there are plenty of tracks that you can get down to.  This isn’t a socially conscious album, but there are plenty of subjects taken on that will make you think.  What you get is a grown person’s hip-hop album that has Chance The Rapper’s essence in every song.  Some songs sound a little off kilter but they never sound wrong as each production seems as if they were painstakingly arranged to maximize their effect (and they probably were).  Each tracks has strong lyrics, even the fun ones, and the guest rapper and singers fit their perspective tracks perfectly.  As musical gifting goes, you could do a lot worse.
