Grammy-nominated songwriter Alvin Garrett injects a little blues into our day with his opus of strength called By Myself. Declaring that he is no longer afraid to walk his own path, even if it means walking alone, his vocals are strong and remind us a little of Sam Cooke. The interplay between him and Studdard is good, but they sound so much alike at times that it might take a few listens to tell them apart. The production is full of horns, but manages to be sturdy without overwhelming the singers at any point. The lyrics are the wonderfully strong with an almost inspirational tone that is added by the convicted tone in the singers’ voices. This is a great track for when life has you afraid to pursue a dream.
