The second season of K. Michelle’s reality show, K. Michelle: My Life, begins airing on January 25, so she is releasing new music ahead of the event. The pop&B track about being fine on your own for a while is a beautiful fit for the singer’s voice, which is the highlight of the three-and-a-half minutes. She is very much like Mary J. Blige in how she can convey soulful triumph even when dealing with the adversities of life are bearing down. The production has a midtempo, slightly upbeat flow that works with the theme of the track as it allows her to both a heartbroken and lesson-learned air for the song. The lyrics feel personal, as most K. Michelle songs do, and are solid in their attempt to convey both her lover’s and her own mistakes. It’s the kind of song that sneaks up on you with how well written and performed it is and is an easy repeat.
This is likely the first single from her next album. We’ll keep you posted on details.
