Talk about improvement! While Malachiae Warren’s last freelease was interesting enough for us to take notice, his latest shows a much more polished artist.
Heard U Was In My City is nice collection of slow jams for the season that are aimed at a younger adult (not young adult) audience that has the right combination of romance and swagger to make it palatable to a wider audience. This time around, the production and vocals feel more balanced and refined, making extended listening much more possible. And while there are several instances where autotune is used (including all of Pop Off), it’s not as disruptive for him as it is for some artists. Lyrically the tracks are still aimed at fun, but they still make sense and some of the tracks are going to get stuck in your head. It’s a good set for the cloudy/cold days when you don’t want to slow down your music too much.
