Chrisette Michele is one of those artists who takes her craft seriously but knows how to fun with it.  Her new single, Steady, is more upbeat and club-worthy than most of her other tracks in the past and there is nothing wrong with that.

Categorizing the song as trap/soul, the singer speaks on her ten years in the industry, her new label, her new fiancé, and basks in the glow of having made it.  The production of the track thumps nicely and has energy in it, but it’s Chrisette Michele’s vocals that raise this above the pack.  She still has the solid sound that longtime fans expect from her, but she’s dials it back just enough to let the beat do its work.

Of the unexpected direction, the singer says, “I’m ready to play. I miss being a choreographer. I miss my leather pants. I miss being excited. I love my ballads and there will be some in this new album, Milestone, but it’s time to let my hair down and step outside of the box. I can’t wait to share.”
