Dishing out a mid-tempo ballad with some thump, August Alsina sings his woes out in Song Cry.  Lamenting that They say a man ain’t supposed to cry, the singer has decided to touch on his hopes, fears, and disappointments in life in a place that he’s actually allowed to emote.  The production of the track sample The Isley Brothers’ classic, Tears, and adds a staccato snare and deep bassline which adds a melancholy air without making the track feel depressing.  His vocals fall in line with a lot of his previous work, although there seems to be some additional clarity to his tone from his first album.  The lyrics are good and address the singer’s thoughts in a straightforward way, which allows him to be more thoughtful about his lyrics without losing that sense of masculinity that allows other men to connect to his work.

This is the third single from Alsina’s upcoming album, This Thing Called Life, which he expects to release before the end of the year.
