About this time last year, Lumidee dropped a freelease that was pretty fun to listen to…only to go quiet after that. While I’m pretty sure she may have released a few songs that made their way around the underground, it seems like she may have squandered a little promo. Nevertheless, she’s back again and her new track shows a little growth.
Lumidee’s voice has always been light and there’s not a whole lot of chance that’s going to change but, this time around, she has volume and strength that wasn’t there in some of her earlier tracks. If she had recorded this around the time of her first album, she would have likely been drowned out by the production; instead, she floats about it and adds a little something to the sound with her high tone.
The track, on the whole, isn’t bad. The production has a nice thump with that same underlying sound that seems unique to Lumidee. The Dave East verse is solid and the lyrics, while nothing new, make sense. While this would have been a better track (and video) for summer given the mood it sets off, this is still a buzzworthy track that will have people looking the singer’s way again.
