While it was only released a few weeks ago, Karmin has already remade (and is selling) a cover of Justin Bieber’s What Do You Mean.
While Bieber’s original definitely had some strong lyrics to back up the song’s concept of constantly being sent mixed signals by a lover, the production and vocals took what could have been a stronger song for the singer and made it pretty mediocre. Karmin’s version, on the other hand, with Amy Heidemann’s beautifully textured vocals with Nick Noonan’s and Gitty Gitelman’s acoustic beatwork shows what the track could be when placed in better hands.
While Karmin is known for their covers, this version takes more liberties in terms of style than previous work. It brings the track more in line with their more recent (and better) body of original tracks they’ve done.
Make sure you have the annotations on if you want to purchase this track.
