I’ll admit, when I first heard Gladys Knight’s new single, I was somewhat thrown. Not by the singer’s vocals, which are still amazing at 71, but at the production. The weird juxtaposition of the dance/funk beat for verses against the R&B/dance beat of the bridges and choruses a little odd.
Now, I love this song.
There is something about it that just scream Gladys Knight. The upbeat track, about allowing love and the rhythm to take you away, is a perfect for the veteren’s style. It has a hint of the kind of music she’s known for in there, but the dance elements are very pronounced and makes the track really appealing to a generation that may not have grown up on her music.
The visual for the song, while simple, shows that Ms. Gladys hasn’t lost a step as she dances around with some younger crews (not doing the same moves, though).
The veteran singer’s twelfth studio album is expected to be released sometime in 2016.
