Off his latest album, Love, Sex & Passion, Raheem DeVaughn give us a visual for the oh-so-sexy Black Ice Cream. The mid-tempo pace aside, this song could be easily classified as a slow jam thanks to the singer’s sensual vocals and the barely contained sexuality of the lyrics. For seven minutes (a length that we are starting to believe is not accidental) DeVaughn sings an ode to the lovemaking prowess of his lady and explains why he keeps coming back again and again. The production could really only be classified as classic, the kind of R&B track that never sounds dated but doesn’t really fit into the modern style of beats. DeVaughn, while putting in a verbose performance, never really seems to overdo it as its his voice that adds the energy to the track.
The ending refrain, Hot on the outside/With love on the inside, brings things back to a place that DeVaughn always brings things to. His babymakers never really seem to be about casual sex as much as the passion shared between two people who have gotten to know each other beyond the physical.
The visual itself is primarily a performance video interlaced with shots of beautiful dark-skinned models posing for and looking seductively at the camera.
