Featuring the extended version of the single Claire Huxtable (but not Good Drinks, Dumb Jokes), Louis York has given us a six-track EP with a title that implies that this might just be the beginning of our journey with them. Just like with their previous releases, half of the track starts with an intro that encompasses the idea of the main track to come. The lyrics are solid throughout with every song either being edifying to those who think that maybe there should be more to listen to than music about sex, or tracks with a message about how we might look to our forbearers. The vocals are good match for every style of music that they showcase, whether it be Queen-style rock (the intro to Nerds) or pop/EDM slow jams. The production is a star in its own right in this set as there are so many different styles encompassed in this half-hour project, but nothing ever feels jarring in transition; only surprising in how it’s sequenced.
This is an amazing EP and deserves some serious attention as it shows what artists can do when they take their craft seriously while still being able to have fun doing it.
