YG Entertain group iKON is finally making their debut and, while not what some were expecting, this is probably a good move for them.

My Type is the kind of song that seems light-years away from what this hip-pop group was supposed to be about; high energy tracks that were meant for dancing as well as listening.  The thing is that this is a good move for the long-term success of the group by not pigeon-holing them right out the gate.  Considering this group essential got their stage debut by performing up-tempo tracks, it makes sense to show that they can entertain by doing something other than what they’re known for.  More than likely the first single from the album will be the hip-pop, dance track everyone was expecting this to be.

That being said, however, this track is by no means perfect.  The lyrics, while nothing stunning, make sense and the vocals are actually pretty good, but the production of the track is a drag on the rest of it.  There is something about the nursery rhyme melody that strikes the ear wrong and makes you tune out after a while.  It’s just too plain vanilla for those who aren’t already into this group (or into this type of song) to pay any extra attention.  It’s not awful; it’s just…meh.
