Featuring the singles Own, Far Away, and Hurt Me, Sonya Teclai’s Heatwave is an alt. R&B masterpiece that is full of bass-heavy, dark beats that enhanced by poetic lyrics.  Teclai’s vocals are complex; she has a clear sweetheart tone, but there are several tracks (most notably the title track) where her tone takes on a soulful edge that show that she can bring more to the track when it requires.  Guns & Roses has the singer dropping rhymes that are not bad at all, especially since this track has the EP’s lone feature by rapper Alpha.  Lay With Me takes what is already a seductive sounding set and adds the lyrics and soft harmonies that give her a true babymaker.  Everything flows from one to the other well and the varied production means that the listener won’t get bored.
