When we reviewed Down For This we said that we didn’t want Vanessa Elisha to get stuck in a rut by essentially writing the same song over and over again. Well it appears that she heard us through the internet ether because Latency is a switch-up of subject for the singer.
The production of the track is very Alt. R&B, having dark production with synth undertones. About feeling stuck due to wanting to be recognized for their efforts and what they want out of life, the lyrics are complex and may take a few listens to completely unpack as sections relate to each other but there is a bit of separation of meaning between verse, bridge, chorus, and breakdown. The vocals, while good overall, can get a little pitchy on the runs. Still, this is pretty good song and worth a couple of listens.
