Gallant releases another fantastic, soulful track with his gospel-tinged Weight In Gold.  Seeming to compare the burdens of a righteous life to pulling a valuable treasure alone, the singer truly distills the feeling of wanting to do right but not feeling you have the strength to always walk the path.  Gallant’s voice is strong and does acrobatics as it instantly goes from being a brash tenor to an angelic but weary falsetto.  The production adds the feeling that he is standing in front of the congregation, giving his testimonial with its organ and guitar stings.  The lyrics are full of distinct images in its poetic lines that make the song short on words but long in substance.

Lyrics:
black dust in orbit cascades down like a parachute
bricks on my shoulders, this gravity hurts when you know the truth

I’m pulling my weight in gold
call me anxious, call me broke
but I can’t lift this on my own
pulling my weight in gold
call me anxious, call me broke
but I can’t lift this on my own

we dreamt like martyrs—
I never thought I was bold enough.
you pushed me further
and I take the blame for the both of us

I’m pulling my weight in gold
call me anxious, call me broke
but I can’t lift this on my own
pulling my weight in gold
call me anxious, call me broke
but I can’t lift this on my own

Oh, Universe— hold me up
you tried your best, is it ever enough when it’s already dragging me down?
