Brooklyn singer Greg Banks brings us some soulful joy on his freEP, Lagniappe. Fusing R&B, soul, funk, and a little Franky Beverly, he approaches the somewhat stale musical era with something that’s a little different. He works his falsetto for most tracks, but it’s strong in a way similar to Prince and doesn’t become annoying. His tone is full appropriate attitude for each track and that means that every song has a different flavor. The production of each track is different as well, but is cohesive in its overall feel. The lyrics are solid and expressive, adding dimension to each track. The end result is a surprisingly upbeat and bouncy set that shows us what someone who comes at music with their perspective in mind can give us.
