Ray J can be hit or miss with the tracks at times. For every Let It Go there’s an I Hit It First. His new track, though, might just be classified in the Let It Go range. Brown Sugar has the singer proclaiming just how much he wants to be with and loves the lady in his life. The production has a chill vibe that works with his vocals well. The lyrics, while they fall down a little towards the end, are nice and express emotion in a less-than-flowery but honest way. Even Wayne’s verse, while not the most sonically appealing, is on point and fits the concept well; especially with the D’Angelo callback. If this is the first salvo to his upcoming album, he has us eager to hear more.
