PJ Morton sings to us about the trouble that artists of all stripes have when they sign up to a label. Even artists that come with a built-in fanbase due to music they released prior to being signed are asked to change their style to fit in with what’s on the radio. It takes a strong person to stand up to the pressure or, in some cases, walk away altogether. Morton decided on the latter as he now has his own label.
While this track seems not to have been put through the mastering process, it still sounds amazing with its horn-filled production that sounds like it comes from a jazz club. Morton’s vocals are strong and full of emotion as he relates his story in a way that sounds like he’s happy to be free. The lyrics are strong and relatable as you can feel that he probably heard the some of these exact words (like Thuglife my nigga/Act a little more tough) actually come out of someone’s mouth.
We hope this release means that he’s coming with more new music soon because we cannot wait to get more like this.
