Blaq Tuxedo (formerly D&D) has been releasing some pretty good music over the course of the last six months. First came their freelease Red Flowerz that was swiftly followed up by a pay EP by the same name with new tracks. There have been a string of loosie tracks (of varying quality) and now, the first two new tracks of new year.
The first track, Amazing, is about two people in a semi-permanent relationship that know that they aren’t each other’s focus. While the content of the track might seem callous to some people, the fact is that neither is expecting anything more from the other…or are they. The chorus transitions into something that seems like the gentlemen may have caught feelings for the lady in question and, by the end of the song, that is made pretty clear. The track hovers between the initial statements and a song about taking whatever you can get from the person you want. It’s an interesting concept that is usually covered more by women than men. The production adds strength to the track as it also balances a harder beat with a more R&B melody.
The second track, I Been Everywhere, has the boys adopting a Drake-esque flow and taking the Rihanna cover (Where Have You Been) of Johnny Cash’s track of the same name for the chorus as they sing about the a woman who has their interest. While the subject matter isn’t new, the production, vocals, and short length make this track more bearable than it might have been otherwise.
