BJ The Chicago Kid is still on his grind and putting out new tracks for out consumption.  This time he takes on two of our favorites from two great alternative groups.

The first is a remake of MGMT’s Electric Feel.  While we like The Chicago Kid’s vocals on the track, especially when he breaks it down after the second chorus, we’re not feeling the acoustic guitar replacing the overall 70’s funk production from the original.  It absolutely changes the feeling of the song; the original had its own electricity that went with theme while The Chicago Kid’s is a little sleepy.

The second track is 2wice (Twice) by Little Dragon.  This time he doesn’t change the original production and it works out beautifully.  His vocals are dynamic, ebbing from somewhat loud to quiet and strong to gentle.  This also changes the feeling of the song, but in a way that doesn’t change the meaning of the song.  Yukimi Nagano’s vocals on the original created this ether-like feeling of someone being numb at the outcome of their choices.  The Chicago Kid’s version sound like someone conflicted by them.  It’s hard to choose which one we like better between the two.

For reference, take a listen to the originals.
