We have to be honest, when we saw the title Protect Ya Neck, we didn’t expect this.  With a mellow production showcasing a little bit of an 80’s twist, Lauriana Mae goes in about the fact people who latch on to you when success comes your way only to stab you in the back…or neck.  The smoky vocals the singer gives on the track are a nice compliment to the beat, adding that touch of truth that someone with a smooth delivery might not have gotten across as well.  She sounds a little battered but not beaten by the users around her, which makes this song both a cautionary tale as well as a motivational one.
