Lyfe Jennings has been in the game for a while now and the one thing that we can count on him for is to take things from a deeper angle than most singers.
In his new single, Pretty Is, from his upcoming sixth album focuses on the mentality of a woman who’s a stripper but doesn’t let the job define her. Instead of trying to using he sex appeal to snag a man to take care of her, she uses it as a stepping stone for her own dreams. The lyrics are typical Jennings; strong and relatable with that hint of something that lets the listener know that this is lived experience he’s talking about. The production is piano driven instead of guitar (which is his instrument of choice) and it gives the ballad a feeling of strength behind the softness, an attitude that permeates the song in general. His voice is still good as well, with that rasp that sounds a little unpolished but makes his tracks all the better.
Lyfe Jennings’ album, Ten Years Later, is expected to be released sometime this year.
